David Griffin couldn’t handle the pressure. Griffin Exits, Chauncey Billups in the rear view mirror. 

As the Cleveland Cavaliers recently lost their second championship in three years, General Manager David Griffin exits, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Griffin couldn’t agree on the Cavaliers future with the coaches and other staff members. As Griffin leaves, former NBA champion Chauncey Billups emerges as an option, according to Woj

In addition, Billups has a healthy relationship with the Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.

Despite losing to the Golden State Warriors for two out of the last three seasonst, the Cavaliers’ title window is still open. Some others in the organization wanted to trade players, but Griffin had problems with trade talks this week per Woj.

Although Griffin’s contract expires later this month, the Cavaliers decided not to extend it. He was with the Cavaliers organization for seven years.

If you don’t know, Billups played in the NBA for 17 long seasons and was the 2004 NBA finals MVP.

Sources told Wojnarowski, Billups will be hired as the President of Basketball Operations.

 

What’s Next for David Griffin?

Griffin reportedly has numerous teams offering him money to take over their team. Opposing teams liked what Griffin did with the Cavaliers front office.
