Edinson Volquez of the Miami Marlins threw the first no-hitter of the 2017 regular season, against the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday evening. The 33 year old from the Dominican Republic, won his second straight starts after losing seven out of his first first nine, with two no-decisions. Volquez struck out 10, while walking two batters in his historic day.

His no-hitter was the first nine inning no-hitter less than 100 pitches since Marlins’ Henderson Alvarez in 2013. He threw 98 pitches.

In his post game interview, he dedicated this game to the late Jose Fernandez and Yordano Ventura. Saturday would have been Ventura’s 26th birthday.
